Write Up:

We couldn't have had better weather for a great walk in the woods. Nothing like the trees to give each of us the "trail therapy" that we all need. It was just a wee bit nippy to start, but not enough to feel too uncomfortable. We started with a breathtaking multi-mile view at Dowdell Knob and snapped a few photos with the FDR statue. After a sharing each of our favorite words for our introduction and a good joke (well, I will accept the 9 groans as half laughs = 4.5 laughs!) we pushed off for our 15 miler. Our first couple of miles were rocky and downhill and we passed by a quick view of elephant rock! We got into the groove and pushed through several miles with views of several small waterfalls just around the halfway point (we were always halfway to somewhere, right?). The favorite, I think, was the newly dubbed "Solo Fall" (thanks Joyce for the name and the shout out for my possibly last "solo" training lead). After a quick glance off of the Wolf Den, we started out once again, passing by the great big pine tree, "Ferney"! Lots of great conversation throughout the hike. But we all noticed for the last 2-3 miles that our words became few as our minds were working hard to overcome our drained bodies. But we pushed hard on the way back home, though, all picking up the pace on the uphill journey. Great job everybody on an awesome finish for a great day walking in the woods!
