Wishing everyone a great Memorial Day. The difficulty of an 8 mile hike doesn't hold a candle to the suffering of our fallen soldiers. This hike was a tribute to them.

We covered all kinds of trails as we trekked to the ruins and then made our way to the Cochran Shoals section, where we took the long biking trail to the creek. A huge tree had fallen across the trail, presenting a bit of an challenge for us to cross, but a bigger obstacle for bikers who had to carry their bikes over. .From this trail, we hiked to the gravel running trail and re-entered the woods, where we hiked on the newer biking trail and climbed to the cemetery. From there, we took the long biking trail back to the Sope Creek section, finishing our hike by Sibley Pond. We finished right at 11 am with GPS devices all clocking in at almost 8 miles.

There were numerous bikers, hikers, and families on the trails today taking advantage of the holiday. Another great hike for the books. ~ Joyce
