Write Up:
Well this was our fall back, Plan B hike if our scheduled AT hike was rescheduled due to the weater....but it rose the occasion and we ended up having a great time. We met at a drizzly carpool, but by the time we hit the trail at about 10:30, the rain had stopped, never to return. It was very foggy, and a bit chilly starting off, but as soon as we hit the first hill, we began to shed layers and down to short sleeves through the rest of the day. We ended up doing just over 10 miles and about 1700 feet of ascent, covering every trail in the park and a couple of "secret" side trails as well. This oft-neglected park always provides a good workout and some well-graded, wide trails that make trail talk easier and just allow you to enjoy walking without watching your every step. Well it was a nice change of a pace, and we had a great group that made the most of it on this somewhat overcast day. Hopefully we'll do a sunny Sawnee hike soon.
