Allatoona Pass Battlefield park is very rarely if ever used for AOC hikes so our group today didn't know what to expect,  It turned out to be an excellent day of hiking and learning a little history about the Civil War battle that took place on the ground all around us.

Although approximatly half the hike was on relatively level ground following a railroad cut through the Allatoona Mountain Range, we spent the other half of our hike exploring the shore of Lake Allatoona, following the old Tennessee Wagon road that formally ran from Atlanta to Chattanooga in the 1800's and exploring several earthworks and forts that were central to the 1864 battle itself.  All in all an enjoyable hike of nearly 5 miles covered in about 2 hours.
