Write Up:
Between the weather and health issues, turnout was light. Only four hardy souls decided to brave the weather and hike up Blood Mountain. We walked in light and intermittent rain, and temps in the 40s below to the 30s at the top. From the peak, the clouds allowed us a surprisingly good view, but it could have been better. The trail had recently been re-routed, so much of the walking near Slaughter gap was in very muddy conditions. (A snickers bar became the price of a plastic grocery bag, for protecting the cars from muddy boots on the return drive) Despite the conditions, everybody agreed that the hike was good, and far better than the alternatives.
