Well we took a chance with the weather forecast this weekend but it paid off in a BIG way....we lucked out with mostly sunny skies and fairly mild temps.  It was a bit overcast early in the morning, but the skies only improved as we drove up to SC...as we dropped off some vehicles at Burrells Ford for our car shuttle and headed down to the Nicholson Ford road trailhead to begin.

We hit the Foothills trail and it was only a short walk to our first waterfall....Pigpen Falls...not a monster but a nice little set of falls trailside.  We proceeded south on the CRT for just about another tenth of a mile to see Licklog Falls from above....a steep side trail led to the bottom of the falls.

We then hiked a serpentine path north, hoping that our desired riverside campsite would be unoccupied.   It turns out that the forecast must have scared others away because our site was free as well as several around it.  We had the entire area to ourselves and only saw a couple of dayhikers go by later in the day.

After setting up camp, most of the group relaxed and played in the river while a few did a dayhike to Big Bend Falls.  Even though we would pass by this the next day, some of us wanted to go ahead and check it out.   Even though the falls were just .9 miles away, it was a 2.4 mile hike to get to them, and of course another 2.4 back.

Sunday we took our time waking up and making breakfast, then breaking down camp.  We headed north on the CRT...coming to a "High Water Detour" trail sign and deciding to just forge ahead.  It was a wise move as the water wasn't so high that we couldn't safely scramble across rocks.  We took a long break here and watched Steve swim across the river to GA (see pics).

The final stretch of trail to Burrell's Ford was mostly along the river and very scenic.  Most of the group was tired at this point and were not up for any more dayhikes, but three did venture down to see Spoonauger Falls..  There were no takers for a final hike to Kings Creek Falls though, so we headed home...satisfied after a relaxing and adventurous weekend.
