What a Winter Wonderland we had on our hike at Three Forks. After a beautiful drive up to Three Forks on a Forest Service road, we headed out on the Appalachian Trail in 28 degree weather.  The hike up along Stover Creek was beautiful and as we reached the higher elevations of the valley we suddenly ran into some snow on the ground and heavy frost in the trees.  After the warm fall we have had this year, this was a nice change of weather, ushering in the cold weather.

We reached the Benton Mackaye trail which we took all the way back to Three Forks.  We started by climbing to the summit of Rich Mountain and then a steady descent.  We hiked through Three Forks and headed up to Long Creek Falls where we enjoyed our lunch and headed back to the cars and the end of our hike.  What a great group of 10 hikers for this 9 mile jaunt in the beautiful North Georgia mountains.  ~ Holt
