After a dark and VERY windy night, twelve hikers summited the highest point east of the Mississippi.  Mt. Mitchell has an elevation of 6684 feet.  Our elevation gain was 3897' and a distance of 12 miles.  Views from the platform were spectacular.  The smells of firs, sounds of birds and gurgling waters (not exactly a waterfall) were enjoyed by the team.  Everyone met the goal in good time and good shape.  A celebration was had at the end of the day...showers, good food, roaring fire, smiling faces, and well tested muscles.
