We had such beautiful weather for our hike in the Iron Hill section of Red Top Mountain State Park.  The skies were sunny and the air was absolutely clear.  We visited a former iron ore mine that was off to the side of the main trail before heading down to the lake side.  With the water level in the lake down,  we walked along the shore for a while before heading out to the peninsula where we explored the ruins of a former campground tucked back in the wood that was closed back in the early 1980's. Next we headed back to the Iron Hill trail and made our way back to the parking lot and the end of our hike.  We covered 6.3 miles in a little less than 2.5 hours.  ~ Holt
