Write Up:

We had an absolutely beautiful day for our hike at Red Top Mountain.  We did the White trail first out to the end where due to the very low water in Lake Allatoona, we were able to walk out onto a peninsula that is normally underwater.  Next it was out to the Homestead Trail where we completed the loop counterclockwise.  Along the way we visited the ruins of the homestead which gave the trail its name.  The chimney ruin is actually in remarkable condition.

Along the way we took a sidetrail down to the lakeshore which afforded us some beautiful views of Pine Mountain across the lake and the top of the Allatoonal dam.  After crossing the park road we did a parts of two other trails before arriving back at the parking lot and the end of our 5.5 mile hike. We pretty much had the entire park to ourselves on the hike which was enjoyable. ~ Holt
