Write Up:

We had several members new to Gold Branch and to the AOC, so Trena started out with a disclaimer about the trails at Gold Branch - - words that struck fear even in the veterans to Gold Branch! But we took things slowly, and - - aside from the technical rock scrambling section by the Bull Sluice Lake - - the trails were very manageable and beautiful.

It must be the mating season for herons, because three of them were spotted flying back and forth across the river, often landing close to one another and chattering. Seeing three herons at once was a rare treat!

It was great to get in a beautiful hike today, especially with the bleak winter storm warning for later tonight. ~ Joyce
