Wonderful day! Wonderful group! Wonderful hike! What started out from Unicoi with rain and threatening storms turned out to be a perfect day for hiking. Make no mistake, this was a tough D5 hike, but a strong group was able to tackle three hard mountains, Brier Creek Bald, Rocky and Tray. Rocky Mountain twice! Brier Creek Bald was a short side trip from Tray Gap down a closed forest service road, then up an old logging road and finally through the briars and blow downs to reach the summit. The views were a bit muted due to the trees, but thanks to winter conditions, there were no leaves to obstruct seeing nearby Tray and even Brasstown Bald was viewable.
