We left the carpool around 7:15 a.m. to head up to Lookout Mountain to go hang gliding.  It was a beautiful drive up through the mountains.  We all got signed in and watched as much more experienced hang gliders ran off the side of the mountain with their glider.  Since we were going tandem, we headed back down to the facilities landing area where we started our adventure.  As we got suited up in our body harnesses, some nerves were kicking in, at least for me.  Nerves were unnecessary because I knew it was going to be a safe flight.  One by one we took off in the glider behind an ultra-light aircraft, which was attached by a string.  Once the glider is towed behind the plane and reaches 2,000 feet, the string is detached and the glider was free like a bird.  We soared through the sky like an eagle and took some dips and turns.  A camera is attached to the glider a few feet away from where we were positioned on the gilder.  The certified instructor pilot told us to do "Superman" and we let go of our trusty tandem guy and was flying with hands in the air.  It is an experience I never had before, not even when I went skydiving.  I would have to say it was a calm and peaceful flight.

Afterwards, for those that chose to go camping decided to take a plunge into the pool near the landing area within the facility grounds.  There was lots of sun and fun and new friendships were made.  Later that evening, the facility had a donational dinner of sandwiches, chips, sides, dessert and more.  After dinner, there was a huge bonfire.  A good time was had by all!
