Write Up:

We're keeping the Friday morning trails warm for Holt while he's hiking another AT section this week. So to do something a little different for the group, we started our East Palisades hike from the Whitewater Creek parking lot, which was fortuitously empty of other cars when our group began filling the parking places. The road into Whitewater Creek is nicely paved, with no potholes as we have on the road into the Indian Trail entrance. And - - though huge rocks prevent parking on the entrance road at Whitewater Creek - - several additional parking places have been provided to expand the parking lot.

Wind today made the hike quite chilly for the first hour. We all kept on our jackets and gloves to stay warm. Our route avoided all the major hills in the park, so we had a very pleasant, moderate hike in a loop route to the bamboo forest and back. We really enjoyed seeing all the spring plants and flowers appearing (Trilium, May Apples, Red Buds, Buckeye, etc.) and appreciated the relatively dry trails despite the very swollen river. White caps even signaled the fast flow in some places! ~ Joyce
