Write Up:

Well we dodged a weather bullet today as the forecast for our hike at West Palisades improved dramatically overnight.  It was overcast but the almost guaranteed showers held off and the sun even peaked through a time or two.  We started by dropping down immediately to the river level where we saw that the river is still quite high from all the rain over the past month.  After completing our first climb of the day, it was some ridgewalking towards the other end of the park.

We next did a bit of off trail one last time for the spring before the understory fills in.  We climbed a narrow ridge above Rottenwood Creek before heading back down to river level.  After a bit of hiking along the Chattahoochee, we started the most challenging climb of the day.  Everyone did great and it was over before you knew it.  A bit more ridge walk, one more climb and we were back to the parking lot and the end of our hike.  We did about 4.5 miles with a surprising elevation gain of 700 feet in exactly 2 hours.  ~ Holt
