Write Up:HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!! What a fine day for a hike! We had winds all day from
the North West, which made our hike much more comfortable. The trail welcomed us
with lots of flowing creeks ( Wolf creek) some stream branches and a clear path for the
hike ( no blowdown) I really liked the small group number. It let me give them my full
and upmost attention. I was surprised to see horses on the trail at Wolf creek road
where they had the Truck & Trailer. Most of us encountered some Ticks. I suggest
permethrin for clothes only and 20% Deet on skin. We all did a buddy check at all stops.
Still seeing some bloom Flaming Azalea and Birds Foot Violet. In some spots the wild
mountain Ferns were prolific. Also there was some trail chatter from other hikers
warning us about Bear sightings. For this duration of the hike... I highly suggest 3 - 4
liters of fluids or more. This will increase your pack weight. Everyone as I watched were
very cognizant of replacing fluids at every stop. ( especially the bottle drinkers) We were
a hiking group at all times and we represented the club well. Please get better Cathy
Lee - the group missed you. Raymond - thank you for the gift. This is one of those
trails that you must check in often to evaluate hiking skills.
