Write Up:

We started early; the temperature was warm with a lot of sunshine. We did quick introductions at the exit to the overflow parking lot. About half our group had never hiked Kennesaw Mountain National Battle. I did a brief history of the Battle that occurred in June of 1864. We proceeded to the Visitor Center than along the paved road to the parking lot at the top of the mountain. From there we took the paved trail to the top of the mountain. After a break to enjoy the breath-taking view of the Atlanta area we followed the road back down the mountain. We than follow the 24-gun trail to the gun batteries and turned around. Several of us stayed for the 11 o’clock canon demonstration. Yes, there was a guy in a Union Naval Uniform. As it turns Kennesaw Mountain is the only Civil War Park with a Naval Trophy Gun.

I would like to thank Pan for joining us on his first AOC hike, Kathy F for her second hike, and Kathy for her third hike. Once again thanks to the rest of the group for making our newest members feel welcome to our club.
