Write Up:

It was a hot and muggy hike, but with a cool breeze at times.  We got underway at 6:30 as planned.  When we reached the parking lot on Big Kennesaw, we were presented with a very clear view of the city.  Stone Mountain was clearly visible as well.  Northbound you could see Pine Mountain, Pine Log Mountian and the Allatoona mountains very clearly as well.  Not pausing long at all we headed on over Big Kennesaw, down to the Mountain Road, over the hump in the middle, then up Little Kennesaw for a small break.  After that we did the small loop trail on top of Little Kennesaw and went by General French's Rock.  To learn more about General French's Rock, from General French himself, just google ("General French" "Kennesaw Mountain") without the parens, then you should see a link entitled: "Battles and sketches of the Army of Tennessee - Google Books Result".  Click on that and it will show you pages in a book that were taken from General French's writings about the Civil War.  He mentions the rock.

After doing the small loop, we headed back the way we came which involved climbing over the hump again and back up Big Kennesaw Mountain from the easy side.  Then it was zoom back down to the visitor's center.

Thanks for coming out for the hike this evening.  Looking forward to more.
