Write Up:

It was a chilly 48 degrees as we started our hike around Kennesaw Mountain but our group was quickly shedding  layers after we got up Pigeon Hill.  We moved quickly on the Brumby trail headed towards the Visitors Center, stopping briefly at the old CCC camp site where we learned a bit about what happened there back in the late 1930's.  After a brief stop at the Visitors Center, we headed out the 24 Gun Trail.  We then crossed Gilbert road and started our 1 mile jaunt through the big field on the way to Burnt Hickory Road.  The field walk was beautiful and the group enjoyed the cooler temps as the sun heated us up.

We crossed the road and walked through some earthworks left by the Union forces that took part in the battle of Kennesaw Mountain.  One creek crossing and a dash back on the Hardage Mill trail and we were back to the parking lot.  Our hike covered 7.6 miles and about 900 feet of elevation gain in a little under 3 hours.  ~ Holt
