Sope Creek was the venue for our Monday morning hike.  We headed out towards the creek and visited the mill ruins on both sides of the creek, visiting both the pulp mill and the paper mill ruins.  Along the way we saw a blue heron fly down Sope creek before taking up a post in the middle of the creek.  After the ruins, we started walking a big loop around the perimeter of the park, reaching the road bed of the former Eugene Gunby road.  We saw numerous deer who seemed very interested in carefully watching us at the same time.  We finished by looping around Sibley Pond and back to the parking lot, finishing our 5.5 mile hike in 2 hours.

One of our hikers today was on her very first AOC event.  So a special welcome to Julie G.  We look forward to seeing you on future AOC events.  ~ Holt
