Before the hike started those of us with dogs ended up getting there early and the dogs played together in the shallow beachy area adjacent to the trailhead.  This was great to tire them out before the hike started.

In leu of forecasted rain we had sweltering hot weather that Atlanta is known for this evening.  The 14 of us kept a good pace of 2.5 - 3mph stopping at intersections and working up a great sweat.  We hiked about 5 miles - all the way to the bamboo forest - we were fortunate to not have seen any poisonous snakes in the thick brush before the forest.

We learned from a veteran E. Palisades hiker we met in the bamboo forest (been hiking there 18 years) that the stone foundation where the trail comes out to the river was a landing point for people bringing horses across the river pre civil war era.
