Write Up:

The weather was perfect for our hike, it has been unseasonably cool and great for hiking after work.  It was a fun and friendly group of people, we had a few new people to the AOC, and most people had not been to the West Palisades area of the Chattahoochee NRA.

We started along the cement path and followed the river past rottenwood creek taking the trail straight (no right, well not left).  We continued along the river then begun our ascent up over the bluffs.  We took the trail to the Akers Mill parking lot on the North end of the park, then continued our hike descending down to the river all the way to Devils Race Course Shoals by the beach area and jumping rock (where the local high school students spend their days during the summer).

We high-tailed it back to the parking lot following the main trail back up and over the bluffs, then down to the cement path, returning to our vehicles around 8:20pm with a solid 7 minutes of twilight to spare!  With the moon almost full and no overcast sky - we had sufficient light to return to our cars - much more than I've had on past recent hikes.

The group kept a solid pace of approximately 3mph the entire hike, getting in just over 5 miles.
