Write Up:

It was cold, cold, cold this morning for our hike around Kennesaw Mountain but our group came prepared for the weather.  We started out by getting our hearts pounding by quickly climbing Pigeon Hill.  Next it was the connecter to the Brumby trail which we followed all the way to the Visitors Center.

After a quick break, we headed out the 24 gun trail where we learned a bit about the different artillery pieces used by both sides of the battle at Kennesaw Mountain.  We headed to a rarely visited part of the park which included several old farm buildings.  Then we took an old farm road up to the top of the ridge.  On the edge of a very large field, we saw numerous daffodils along the trail which is a sure sign of a former homestead.

We transited the field and crossed Burnt Hickory road and then started heading east.  We had a small creek to cross which had more water in it than normal which made for a somewhat challenging crossing while trying to keep dry feet.  After everyone crossed, it was another 1/2 mile back to the parking lot and the end of our 7.5 mile hike.  ~ Holt
