We had a great group for our hike at Pine Mountain.  Our trek covered both of the east and west loops at Pine Mountain.  We started at the west loop trailhead.  We decided to cover the west loop in a clockwise fashion, ascending the steepest section first.  After the climb we visited the summit of Pine Mountain and the David Archer overlook.  After a short break, we headed out the east loop where once again we hiked it clockwise.  On the descent, we stopped briefly at Whiskey Hollow were we discussed the moonshining activities that occured here many decades ago.

Next we began our climb up the east loop and saw many old logging roads that intersected the trail.  Upon reaching the summit, we stopped at the overlook once again for a snack break while viewing in a distance Kennesaw Mountain, Sweat Mountain, the Cartersville power generation plant and even downtown Atlanta.  We completed our trek by descending the last portion of the west loop, reaching our cars and the end of our 7.5 mile hike.

A special welcome today for Renee S who was on her very first AOC event.  We hope to see her again on future AOC events.  ~ Holt
