A great hike today and with near perfect weather.  We started our around the mountain hike at Kennesaw from the Burnt Hickory lot and first headed up Pigeon hill. We took the Pigeon Hill cutoff trail to the Brumby trail and headed north towards the visitors center. Along the way we visited the former site of the Camp Brumby CCC camp that operated in the 1930s and learned a little about their activities  Along the way to the Visitors Center, we passed numerous rifle pits that were used by Confederate pickets during the 1864 battle of Kennesaw Mountain.

After a brief break, we headed out the 24 gun trail.  After crossing Gilbert Road we visited a couple of period farm buildings that are little known.  Taking a farm road up the hill, we entered the mile long field as we made our way to Burnt Hickory Road.  We then took an equestrian trail around to the Hardage Mill trail and back to the cars.  Overall our hike covered about 7.2 miles in a little under 3 hours.  ~ Holt
