Today we visited one of my most favorite places to hike in metro Atlanta.  We hiked both the east and west loops at Pine Mountain.  Starting from the West trailhead, we hiked the west loop in a clockwise direction, getting the toughest climb of the day out of the way immediately.  Upon reaching the top of the mountain, we visited the true summit at the David Archer overlook, breaking to take in a glorious fall morning with fantastic long range views.  Next, we headed down the east loop, staying with our clockwise direction.

We saw Whisky Hollow before starting our long climb back to the summit.  On the way up, we stopped at the "Big Tree" and rock cairn where we tooks some photos.  We visited the overlook again before the long descent back to the bottom of the mountain and our cars.  Overall, our hike was about 5.5 miles and about 1600 feet of elevation gain.  ~  Holt
