Tue, Nov 17 2020 - Pre-dawn Peak of Leonid Meteor Shower + Stargazing Hike at Mason Mill Park (View Original Event Details)|
|Participants:||Charlie Cottingham, Janelle, Rebecca W, Joseph, Becky D, Christine Nopper, Linda P|
We AOC "early-bird skygazer-hikers" took advantage of the crisp clear weather in the eerie stillness of Mason Mill Park at 4:30 this morning. Despite a shortage of the annual fall "Leonid meteors" that we'd hoped for we still delighted in the other wonders of the night sky above and all around us: brilliant Venus rising in the east, Leo, Gemini, Orion and the Big Dipper all high above - plus Taurus, the Pleiades, the Big Dipper, Sirius, Polaris, Arcturus and Spica surrounding us. We took the time to enjoy a variety of views of these and other constellations, stars & planets while hiking the PATH trail to Medlock Park & back and also along the beautiful PATH boardwalk that winds northward through the forest from the Mason Mill Tennis Center.
Keep looking up!
