We started on time at 8:00 AM after sign-in.  We introduced the new people and welcomed them to the AOC.  Immediately after that we headed up Big Kennesaw at a very fast pace.  As designed, this hike is a " go at your own pace" and so each did.  I was sweeping and noticed the group was pulling away from me, so I had to push it a bit to stay up with the tail section of the group.  Fog covered the mountain from the half-way point and it was a welcomed cool feeling.  Soon we were all gathering at Burnt Hickory Road where the group informed me of their interest in doing the extra loop.  Still, everyone kept up the D5 type pace and in hardly no time at all we were crossing Burnt Hickory Road again down from the original crossing.  Because of the pace, I decided not to take the Pigeon Hill bypass but instead added a little bit more to the trip and climbed it.  Once back on top of Big Kennesaw things began to clear up and you could see for miles towards Atlanta and the North Georgia mountains.  Back at the visitor's center, we had gone over 8 miles in 3 hours.  Scott Sanders asked if any were interested in heading back up Big Kennesaw up the Mountain Road and several took him up on it.  It was a great group of hearty hikers this morning!
