Another amazing day in the Smokey's with a super fun AOC group. We went in search of the famed azaleas on this grassy bald, however while abundant those were not yet ready to bloom. Still, we had a lot of fun, lunch on the grass bald, crossing the creeks, getting a good workout and enjoying the amazing beauty of the forest. Experts still debate why these balds exist but regardless they make for great views. We could see into three or four states. Gregory is not on the NC 5k at just under but still worthy hike. Around 16 miles and 3.6k elevation gain for the day, with a few calories burned we earned our burgers at Deals Gap on the way home.
