Write Up:

Beautiful, hot day on the Gahuti Backcountry Trail. Strong AOC group of 11 hikers plus Zeus braved the 90+ heat and did 10 miles with 2,200 ft elevation gain. Started the day near the park entrance with a low fog that burned off early and make for awesome views from the overlook. The trail itself was in better shape than expected, but for a few overgrown spots on single track areas. The waterfall below the lake was flowing well and offered a cooling respite. Thanfully, the trail is very well marked with orange diamond blazes, we left the Gahuti at the halfway point on the yellow blazed tower trail to the rock wall, the tower and the westerly overlook. After taking in these features, the group took a side trail back to bathrooms and a covered pavilion for a pleasant lunch. Finally, walking across the parking lot back to the Gahuti trail to resume the final few mile trek back to our cars. A tough but rewarding day. Welcome to Barbara for her first AOC event! She did great!
