Write Up:

Stellar day on the trail! Seven hikers and two dogs left the Standing Indian campground on the Long Branch Trail meeting up to the AT ridge at Glassmine Gap. From here, we took a right turn SOBO and soon found ourselves at the fire tower at Albert Mountain, the 100 mile point on the AT. A cloudless sky led to spectacular views all day. After leaving the tower, we continued south bound down a steep, rocky section until we reached our favorite lunch spot, at the 10 mile point in our hike, just off the trail. Fully fueled, we continued via for another 10 ish miles covering various high and low point on the trail until we reached Standing Indian, a short side trip off the AT to enjoy beautiful southerly views and refuel again. With darkness quickly approaching, we quickly descended back on the steep Lower Ridge Trail back to the campground and to our cars. We didn’t need our headlamps we were able to keep a good pace all day, but it was close. A satisfying 9 hours with 4,500 ft of elevation gain, two 5k ft peaks.
