It was bitterly cold this morning, and the park service didn't show up at opening time at 7:30 to open the gate and the building, so we gathered out in the cold signing waivers and jumping up and down trying to stay warm.  Soon after 8:00 we were underway and hiking in the slightly snow covered Big Kennesaw Mountain.  I guess it was about 17F when we started out, and there was a slight breeze to bring it down a good bit more.  Everyone proceeded at their own paces as planned and we sync'd up on top of Little Kennesaw before heading down to Burnt Hickory.  All but two agreed to carry on with the extra loop.  Jon Miner became co-lead and led the 5 miler group back to the visitor's center.  The rest carried on and did the extra 3.5 mile loop.  We got back to the visitor's center around 11:10 and the park service by then had arrived and opened up the parking lot and the building.  Also, by then the temperature had risen into the 20's so it was quite warm relatively speaking (except that we were wet with sweat and getting colder by the second after stopping).  It was a good hike in some partially snowy woods.  A somewhat rare event on Kennesaw Mountain.
