Write Up:

Stellar day on trail! two of us hiked two approach trails to Brasstown Bald, the highest peak in Georgia. We started at Trackrock Gap on the Arkaquah trail. It was a tough 5 miles to the Brasstown parking lot, including 1,300 ft elevation gain in the first 1.5 miles. Then, after a quick stop for bathroom, we continued down the Wagon Train Trail toward Young Harris. We had lunch and turned around and headed back up toward Brasstown. This was a long, steady incline with a few rain showers to keep us cool! The final leg on Arkaquah was the toughest with lots of ups and downs.

Zeus the wonder dog continues to add to his portfolio, he has now hiked all three approach trails. Probably the clearest day for views even while some small thunder cells went through the area and we got wet. The coolness of the rain and sun blocking was welcome even as the temps were reaching the 80’s. Thankfully water was available at the Brasstown parking lot so we didn’t have to carry so much. There was no water on Arkaquah and only two running spots on Wagon Train. Three weeks ago on Wagon Train there was lots of running water, it was shocking how dry everything has become. Also, amazing how at the same time incredibly green and lush.
