It was a classic warm and muggy day for a classic hike on the Bartram Trail. The original 12 registrants - no drops from the first 12 attendee signups - met at the trailhead and hit the trail a few minutes before 9:00 am. After a few short minutes of hiking, we came to Becky Branch Falls. The crossing was a little tricky with a steep wet rock, but another hiker taking a break there helped several of us get across safely. We continued on to Martin Creek Falls, which was beautiful as ever. We then began our ascent to Pinnacle Knob. One hiker took a scary tumble, but made a valiant save that kept her from sliding down a very long and steep slope. She quickly recovered, brushing off the dirt and carrying on to the top at her normal pace. The view from Pinnacle Knob was stunning as it never fails to be. On our hike up we had the trail to ourselves, on the way down though, we ran into several ascending hikers. It pays to get an early start. We completed 8.6 miles and approximately 1700 feet elevation in just over 4 hours. Thanks to Jean for co-leading, Joyce T. (for this hike at least the “other” Joyce) for her photos as always, and to the 12 hearty hikers who were wonderfully supportive.
