What we didn't do in mileage we made up for by some challenging rock hopping, boulder climbing, steep descents and root-laden climbs along the creek. Our route along the creek is only possible when the water level is low, as our route would be largely under water otherwise. We were all very happy when we got to the end of the river portion of the hike and entered the Sope Creek unit at the southernmost border. From there, we stuck to the trails for a fast paced loop around the unit, ending with a double pass around Sibley Pond.

It was a small group today, but that was fortunate for today's itinerary. We all felt the heat today, and lamented that summer is here in full force. ~ Joyce
