Tue, Oct 18 2022 - Birding Walk at Mason Mill Park guided by DeKalb ranger-naturalist Jonah McDonald (View Original Event Details)

Trip Leader(s): Charlie Cottingham
Participants:Charlie Cottingham, Katherine M, Vicky G, Mark W, Bonnie B.

Write Up:

We five AOC birding enthusiasts greatly enjoyed our Tuesday morning field trip with "Ranger Jonah" and about 8 others from the general public.  We were lucky to have clear blue-sky weather and to jointly observe and identify at least 17 different species including bluebirds, cardinals, broad-shouldered hawks and a great blue heron. Below the email that I sent our AOC "subgroup a few days later sharing the beautiful photos and bird list that Jonah had kindly sent me.

Hi to fellow AOC birders Katherine, Vicky, Mark and Bonnie,
Many thanks to our friend, Ranger Jonah for doing such a superb job guiding our birding field trip the other day and also for his thoughtful follow-up emails.
  Forwarded below are:
  1. 14 amazing telephoto shots that were taken by Scott Turner during the outing (and kindly emailed to Jonah).
  2.  A detailed list of the 17 different bird species that we jointly identified and the est. number of each (which Jonah has submitted to Cornell's worthy "EBird" project).
We want to thank Jonah also for pointing out and discussing so many other fascinating things during the outing such as the Joro spiders that recently invaded GA - also recent otter & beaver sightings in the park, etc.
I hope each of you will take advantage of Jonah's wonderful variety Mason Mill nature outings by following him online and registering on your own for some that are of most interest.
    See you again soon!
