Write Up:

Twelve strong hikers (well, 11 plus myself and my dog Zeus), spent the MLK holiday in the Brasstown Wilderness with a fun winter hike on the Wagon Train Trail. The day started out a bit chilly but with beautiful rays of sunshine peaking through the hills as we passed through a steady 3,500 ft elevation gain. This trail was suprisingly dry with fewer muddy and wet spots than normal. The recent wet and cold weather had afforded some dazzling ice formations while we worked hard to keep a steady pace on the ascent to Georgia's highest peak. The final culmination to the reach summit and somewhat overcast and chilly lunch at the observation tower then descended quickly back down to the parking and our cars with a well-earned and thoroughly enjoyable day on the trail.
