A water release was just starting to build as we were readying to embark. We made a last-minute call to change the direction of travel to upstream. It was a good decision because the current became strong as the water volume increased. Had we traveled downstream, all would not have been able to paddle back to the landing. Given the strong current, this trip was cut by an hour and the distance changed from the planned 7 miles to less than 3 miles. Those that made it to the bridge had a great workout. Several of us hung back and helped another paddler so we only made it halfway to the bridge.
