We enjoyed beautiful blue skies at Lake Winfield Scott at the start, followed by a breezy ascent to Jarrard Gap and fine ridgeline views as we hiked northbound on the Appalachian Trail. Blood Mountain was humming with activity as we gazed across the landscape before descending to Neel Gap for lunch. We talked with several through-hikers and other interesting people we met along the way. On our way back we took Slaughter Creek Trail, where we wandered through the rhododendron tunnels besides the mountain brook. And congratulations to Julia for completing her first D5 hike with the AOC!
