Write Up:

It was a hike to remember! Rain threatened to cause us to cancel the hike, but Mike and I determined that the rain in Rydal would end a little before our start time - - 10 am. We felt so fortunate to be able to have the hike! After spending a lot of time taking pictures (the Mike-rock (which Mike loved), the Joyce-rock, the poster, the group, etc. we were excited to begin our hike - - but, alas, we hadn't planned on the creek across the entrance trail being flooded! We pondered a way to cross, but some of the rocks used for hopping were completely submerged and the creek water was flowing . Mike and George broke open a jam of leaves, twigs and limbs that allowed the water to flow faster, but after a half hour, the water was still high. Seven of us braved our way across, while three ladies found an alternate route at the end of the parking lot. We were ultimately all reunited, and the rest of the hike was great. We did have some swampy areas along the connector trail, but once we ascended the West Loop trail, water was no longer a problem.

We enjoyed a pause at the rock quarry to feed the fish. They ate Ritz Crackers ravenously, and even three huge catfish left their bottom dwellings to grab crackers from the water's surface. Eight small packs of crackers were consumed in no time!

Seven of us travelled to SWheat Market & Deli for delicious lunches, with extra orders of sweet potato fries, onion rings, and a huge chunk of Buttermilk Cake with Chocolate Icing.

Congratulations on finishing your 400th event, Mike! ~ Joyce

Here's Mike's post-event write-up:

Neither rain nor sleet nor hail will stop an AOC event, however a flooded creek may delay it by about
half an hour. Two plus hours later the creek was an easy crossing. Even with the late start we completed
a great hike on very wet and muddy trails. See before and after pictures of the creek. After the hike nine
of us went to Swheat Market Deli in Cartersville for lunch with some great food.
