What a fantastic trip!!
We arrived in the dark, but didn't have any trouble finding our spots and setting up tents to crash for an early rise. We met some botany students in the morning who were also camping for the area wildflowers, and found out they'd successfully identified dozens of flowers in near proximity to camp. Rad!

We got up early and took off on our proposed 16 mile trek; it didn't take long to start excitedly identifying so. many. flowers. Steve's dad is something of an expert, so he helped us to id many of the varieties. Every time he found something new the rest of us came running to treat the new flower like a celebrity in the middle of papparazi. Fantastic!!! We had a brief lunch break at the fire tower before winding our way back down to camp.

Our average pace was moderate, our smiles were plentiful, and our memory cards were full. We finished with a fire Saturday night and delicious pancakes on Sunday morning in Gatlinburg (next to a chilly door brrrr). Some folks continued on to more trails Sunday while the rest of us headed on back to Atlanta.

Can't wait to go back next year to do it all over again...!
