WoW!  What an Amazingly Beautiful Len Foote Hike Inn Rainy Trek!  12 of us enjoyed trekking 5 miles into a wilderness lodge with small individual tiers of large meeting spaces for all sorts of activities!  If you came to stay in your lodge room & sleep beyond sunrise, your in the wrong place.  However, if you came to the Lodge to eat wonderful chef prepared home cooking & to be entertained with your hiking family, this comfy wilderness place is for you!  This Lodge has plenty of outdoor adventure experience reminders & educational purpose everywhere!  There was not enough desire in our hiking group to hike to Springer Mtn. & back in total rain the 2nd day of our event.  So, Russ turned over responsiblity for returning the 3rd day to our Co-Lead Mike Collett.  3 of us ventured back in total rain the whole way!  Even in the rain positive group attitude is my preference &, thankfully, we had an abundance of it!!  Ya'll hurry back, real soon!

Mike's addtition:

The rain that had been predicted for Wednesday was waiting for us as we started the hike to Len Foote Inn. There was light rain the entire hike to the mountain. Most of us only got the bottom of our pants wet. The temperature was warmer than expected and we were sweating under our rain gear. We made ourselves at home and enjoyed the Len Foote Inn and our meals.

Thursday morning, we had heavy rain. The remaining nine of us were betting Friday would be the better day for hiking and expected the rain to be about the same as it was Wednesday. Of the nine of us left seven of us decided about 11:00 to head for the crash site. The three “old guys” turned around not wanting to hike further in the heavy rain we were experiencing. The four ”young women” headed for Black Mountain. They too turned around and headed shortly after starting. The thunderstorm hit about 15 minutes after the guys got back and about a quarter of a mile before the women got back. We did not get that wet, however all of us had boots full of water.

Friday morning, to everyone’s surprise was beautiful. When we left the Len Foote Inn was already in the high 50’s and low 60’s at the end. We ended up delaying a couple of times on the trip back. Most of us did not bring light enough clothes for the weather.
