Mon, Jan 22 2024 - Monday Morning at Turtle Back Loop (View Original Event Details)
|
It was great fun to explore this trail that none of us had been on ever or at least for many years. The trail is both a hiking trail and a biking trail, maintained by SORBA, so it's in good condition. I'm sure the trail is busy on the weekends, but we didn't see a soul for our entire 5.4 mile outing. There are plenty of ramps and drops for experienced bikers, as well as a rather easy section for less daring riders.
We passed by the model airplane field and were able to explore the grounds since it was not open for flying. We also passed by a frozen pond where George threw a few rocks in to see how thick the ice was. The first rock fell right through the ice, but the next two stayed on the surface! What fun!
We took an extra loop (The Red Baron Loop) which offered some challenging ramps for experienced mountain bikers.
Parking is free at the Pitner Dog Park lot, and there's a playground for children. The restrooms were heated, which was a big plus for our group both before and after the hike.
Lee added some photos to the album, plus he made a Relive video of our hike. Check it out at: https://www.relive.cc/view/v26MjrzrdEq
