What a great way to celebrate Bunnie's birthday - - with a great hike in Dalton, GA. Fortunately, the rain stopped way before our hike; unfortunately, dense fog obstructed our views until about noon. Nonetheless, the hike was great, with beautiful rock formations and an amazing view from the top of Buzzard's Roost. This is a biking trail, but we were lucky to encounter only a few bikers out this morning. (Most respected the trails and waited for them to dry out.)

We hiked about 4 miles up Rocky Face Ridge, sat on the rocks to eat our lunch, and back-tracked along the trail until we came to the turn-off for Buzzard's Roost. We took that short, steep trail to the top for some amazing panoramic views.

Allen handled the group well, allowing the fast hikers to go ahead but stop at intersections; the rest of us enjoyed our more moderate pace throughout the hike.

We welcomed Derek to the AOC. This was his first AOC event, and he certainly qualifies as a strong, fast hiker.
