Write Up:
Hot one!  It started out fairly cool this morning, but the temps climbed as rapidly as the sun.  Large group today so there was a lot of socializing along the way.  Once we got to Burnt Hickory Road we kicked it up a notch and did the extra loop that brought us back to Pigeon Hill.

I got way too close to a 5 foot rat snake near Big Rock.  He rared back ready to strike as I backed away rapidly and we agreed on things so I let him slide on by first.  I'm not scared of snakes at all, so it didn't scare me, but I was taken by surprise for sure.  He was crawling beside an exposed tree root, so he was kind of hidden from view until I stepped over the root.  Everyone knows not to step over logs for the same reason, but I didn't know we needed to worry about stepping over roots.  I do now.

Soon we were cresting Little KM and then KM again as the heat came on and on and the breezes were few and far between.  Once back down it seemed that everyone got their hike in this morning and seemed to have a good time doing it.

Lets do it again soon!
