Thu, Apr 25 2024 - Thursday Morning Semi-Fitness Hike at Island Ford (View Original Event Details)
|
What a fine morning for our Thursday hike! The air maintained a chill, with bright sunshine and lots of leaf cover on our dry trails.
Bette was delighted to be first up the warm-up hill this morning. She's become a strong hiker!
We saw the Great Blue Heron (they're all called Bleau) fly over the parking lot toward the river, but we never caught sight of it until the very end of our hike when we circled Hewlett Pond. There he was, looking for lunch. He posed long enough for a picture and then took off for the river again.
We had a bit of excitement as we circled the apartment complex pond. Half way around, we stopped at seeing a goose that appeared to be nesting, right there next to the trail. Her mate was on guard on the trail, and he didn't look very friendly, so we turned around and retraced our steps back to the road. Russ bravely tried to slowly walk by the goose, but he hissed. Enough warning for the wise.
After our hike 8 of us had lunch together at Samad Mediterranean Grille. What a nice way to end an event. ~ Joyce
