The weather was great as we headed to the Inn Monday morning. About 3 we were hit by a thunderstorm that lasted over an hour. The weather cleared for an evening in the mountains. To our surprise it was a bit chilly. With broken clouds I was able to get interesting sunset pictures facing east as the light reflected off the clouds.
Tuesday after a nice Len Foote Hike Inn breakfast and a decent sunrise most of us headed for Springer Mountain. Just after we passed the crash site (1.75 miles) my right leg started to tighten up from an injury on Monday and I had to turn around. Sue took a group to the shelter (3.5 miles) and Russ took the rest of the group to Springer Mountain (5 miles). Once again, we had another thunderstorm about 2. This one was worse than Monday’s. The Springer Mountain group was almost back and got a little wet when the storm hit.
Wednesday morning was foggy; we were able to see the sun between the clouds about 30 minutes after sunrise, with a weather report that said it would rain later in the afternoon. On Monday and Tuesday, the rain was earlier than predicted, thus we left the Hike Inn after breakfast.
Thanks to Barbara for her Monday Yogo class and Tuesday’s presentation on the Benton MacKaye Trail.
I was asked by several members what is the difference in elevation between the top of Amicalola Falls and the Len Foote Hike Inn. I said it was just over 300 feet. When I got back something bothered me. I Googled both today. I was wrong. Amicalola Falls is 1900 feet above sea level. The Len Foote Inn is 3100 feet above sea level. Thus, Len Foote Inn is 1200 feet above Amicalola Falls. This agrees with the 1220 feet of ascent I got on All Trails. One other note. Per All Trials the return trip elevation was 725 feet.
As everyone knows Joyce and I may have gone a little overboard on fungi pictures, so I have created two albums. The first photo album is the album with the people and general pictures. The second, using the link below, are the fungi pictures.
