Write Up:

It was a last-minute posting to get in a hike after this morning's rain, and happily, several AOC friends agreed. The trails at Leita Thompson are more forgiving after a rain storm than many of the CRNRA trails along the river. We had a few muddy patches, but nothing we couldn't get around.

Emily was a superb deer-spotter, so we were able to see at least five different deer in the woods! They were all young ones, yearlings for sure.

We kept a moderate pace and visited both of Leita Thompson's home on the property. A tree fell on her second home, destroying some of it. The debris has been cleaned up, but that poor house has suffered!

We stopped by the pavilion so that Emily could see the plaques that provide a history of the park. This was her first visit to Leita Thompson, and as a history teacher, she was interested in knowing how the park came to be.

It was great to see Shirley on the hike. Happily, she's doing well!

Thanks to Lee for all the great photos he added to the album. And thanks to the group for joining me this afternoon! ~ Joyce
