Write Up:

Was a nice surprising adventure...  Merty Lavine jumped in to Co-Lead and we started the evening with an unexpected diversion - a hike through the shady Nature Trails at the base of the mountain before hitting the sweating face of granite to the top. Anya scooted up to the summit first, where Bob found us water fountains, (but the bathrooms were closed.) As the sun set behind some dusky clouds, the breeze picked up and we began to see a whole bunch of flashes of light in the night sky!!  But the surprise was, the flashes werent from the meteors we were hoping to see, but a large thunderstorm off in the distance! There were countless bright threads of light - some even horizontal - sparkling through a huge bank of clouds. Tom Collins went to some trouble to get our expedition permission to stay after the normal midnight curfew, and called to update us on the status of the storm.  After an amazing glimpse at the night sky thorugh Eddy's Night Vision goggles, some of the group headed down, while Marty, Lynn, Jane and some others stayed a bit longer into the night.  In fact, considering how pleasant the cool evening breeze felt, for all I know, they may be up there still!
