Thu, Apr 10 2025 - Blood Mountain and Woods Hole AT Shelters (View Original Event Details)
|
The weather was questionable in that we couldn't decide whether it would rain or not. A little before noon we reached Lake Winfield Scott where we sat at a picnic table overlooking the lake and ate lunch. Mark amazed everyone with his healthy choice of hummus and avocado. It was healthier than the pork chop sandwich that Mark carried on his previous hike. By the time we left Winfield Scott there were dark clouds coming in.
We hiked on toward Jarrad Gap as the clouds began to threaten. Drops started falling as we walked the long spur to Woods Hole Shelter. Within a few minutes of getting under cover at Woods Hole Shelter, the rain began coming down, and it began to hail. It only lasted about 20 minutes, and we resumed hiking with the thought that the rain would return. Instead, the clouds parted, and the sky cleared to sunny blue. This was proof that a weather forecast for a chance of rain shouldn't stop you from getting outside for an adventure. It also helps to be lucky enough to be under a shelter the moment it hails.
